Susan has been a member of the WTSDA since 1993; she tested for Cho Dan in 1997 and for E Dan in 2001. As a gup member, she became involved in a number of Tang Soo Do activities which included but was not limited to: helping to set up local (zone) tournaments and clinics, traveling to the regional championship to assist in security, set up, hospitality and a number of other activities through the years. Since she has become a member of the WTSDA, she has only missed two regional championships and since becoming a Black Belt, she has only missed one Black belt clinic.
She assists in teaching at my studio, A Mountain Wind Martial Arts, for both children and adult classes and has established special Black Belt classes to help those who are getting ready to test for advanced rank. These classes have become so popular in the State College area that many other students from other dojangs also attend them before their testing. She assists in the administration of the studio. She is also caretaker of the studio library which contains books, videos, audiotapes and essays covering a wide variety of subjects which is available to all students.

She was honored with the Region #8 Roundtable Award in 2001 and has been given many commendations through the years for her work for the WTSDA. She has helped through the years at Black Belt tests (monitoring and assisting during the written exam) and at regional judging seminars (monitoring and assisting during the written exam).
In the early 90s she along with her husband, Patrick Parsons, E Dan, and the WTSDA Video Committee produced many videos for the WTSDA - including many world championship videos. After taking over as Chair of the Video Committee, her committee produced the Hyung, one-step and ki gong videos for the WTSDA. Her committees recently completed the 25th Anniversary Video - a project which took over 4 years to produce and included travel to other regions to interview all the masters included on the video. Through the years, she has saved the WTSDA thousands and thousands of dollars on the production of these videos which would be priced at over $60,000.00 per vide if produced on the open market.
Susan truly demonstrates the qualities necessary to be Student of the Year. |
